The Eye Institute of Nevada (EINV) will prioritize research to advance understanding, protection, and restoration of vision. As EINV is being established, EINV plans the startup of a research department focused on digital health, health services, and clinical research, ensuring that healthcare providers and patients benefit from the latest advancements in ophthalmology.
EINV's research strategy will prioritize digital health, utilizing big data analytics, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and telemedicine to improve patient outcomes. Key objectives include developing AI-driven clinical tools for efficient ophthalmic image analysis and optimizing telehealth workflows for remote examinations. EINV will establish the Center for Ophthalmic Health Information Technology (COHIT), housing five laboratories: Large Data and AI Lab; Implementation and Evaluation Lab; Rapid Prototype Applications Lab; Standards and Security Lab; and National Eye Disease Registries. These labs will focus on using large datasets, machine learning, and innovative technologies to advance ophthalmic practices while ensuring data security and privacy.
The Institute is also committed to Health Services Research, aiming to optimize eye care systems for maximized patient outcomes. Through its Center for Ophthalmic Health Services Research (COHSR), EINV researchers will conduct studies on cost-effectiveness, patient-centric care models, and addressing eye care disparities. This work will ensure affordable, accessible, and effective eye care for all Nevadans.
EINV will engage in rigorous Clinical Research, translating ophthalmic discoveries into clinical applications. This involves evaluating new technologies and treatment plans, focusing on therapeutic investigations and clinical trials to assess safety and efficacy. Additionally, longitudinal studies will track disease progression and risk factors, while outcomes research will develop patient-centered outcome measures.
Research at EINV will advance ophthalmic care through cutting-edge technologies, optimized healthcare delivery, and improved patient outcomes, benefiting countless Nevadans and establishing the Institute as a leading center for ophthalmic research. This recognition will attract top professionals and encourage new residents to join the residency program.
